What happened to the wordsmiths of old?
What happened to those who once wrote flowing rivers
Or scribed mountains of literary prowess--
What happened to those brave knights
Who once challenged the Dark King?
Now I have returned in vengeance
My heart burning with the flame of sin,
I long to slaughter
And subjugate all to my dark whims!
But how could I do this
When there is no one left?
The swordsmen of the pen,
So weak and fragile
Like newborn foals
They must be nursed after the famine
And with no heroes left
In a now barren world.
Who else can nurture life again?
But a forgotten and solitary Demon King...
Oh ancient heroes of forgotten stories
How I miss the fights we've had...

Demons don't die
They hide
Underneath memories
Underneath emotions
Foreign
In their immense power
They reside
Deep in the bones
Their whispers seep
Through tired muscles
They persist
Through gaps in lucidity
Their touch excites
Needle sharp
In the naked brain
On the ice-cold skin
Fright
Repeats its patterns
Demons cut
Their twisted way
Into the mind broken
Shifting shadows
Haunt
The lonely silence
Literature
Demon within
A demon
Within
Taking control
Destroying
People's spirits
Scaring people
Away
Making her host
Feel pain
Misery
Loneliness
Destroying
Her hope
Her strength
Her will to live
I must
Do something
I can't lose her
I'll help her
While I still can
We've both
Lost enough friends
Already
Our demons
Scared them
Away
She wants
To be alone
So the demon
Has no one
To hurt
But I'll stay
She needs help
The things
Her demon does
Are not her fault
I know it
So I'll always
Stand by her side
No matter what

If I was to count
All the thoughts in my head
I fear I'd still be counting
Long after I am dead
I just can't stop thinking
About everything you said
Every sentence you spoke
Was a sentence to death
Just another line
Closer to the end
Between the lines I see
Your creeping deathbed
I may think about death
Far more than I ought
But in the end
It's only just a thought
I thought you understood
But you lie to yourself
Like you do to everyone else
I can't understand it myself
Even lying there
You live in denial
But not for long
In downward spiral
Tangled in your own web
Was it worth the words
Those wasted words you spoke
That only I ever heard
