Brings to mind a series I've been reading for a while called "The Rising of the Shield Hero." It's not the best written light novel, but the manga is pretty good - in any case, it's amazing to see what a main character who can't attack an enemy himself thinks, how he deals with betrayal, and how he grows stronger than all the rest
