My dearest child, do not weep, for I am here to wipe your tears away. Come, let us be free of these blankets; let us walk from these dim halls.
There lies what once was your body, fevered and eaten by disease. Your lips are cracked and bleeding, your arms are both thin and sallow. Do not fear them now, for they are long passed.
Come away now, for we must say your final goodbyes. Here to the mother and father that came to your bedside each day. Here to the brother, who shall honour your name. Do not be jealous of them, my dearest child. For you are simply moving ahead; you have not fallen behind.
“But why, why does it hurt so much?”
Why? Because the memories are still carried within you. Your attachments are still strong in this world. That which you didn’t achieve, that which you haven’t done. All of it is carried as chains upon your body and they will stop you from moving.
“They are heavy and so very painful.”
Yes, and they will remain as such, until you have learned to let it go. My dearest child, again I say, do not weep. Though you may not have experienced this world, the next holds much more promise for you. In time, as you go on, you too shall forget. Your pain will vanish and the chains will disappear.
"What about you, do you ever forget?"
No, I do not. For it is my purpose to remember and I shall remember you.
"I-I think I am ready to go, but what will it be like on the other side. Will you come with me?"
Nay child, I cannot accompany you. But do not fear and do not shed these lonely tears. For there will be those who will stand by you. The other side is a different place, some say better, some worse. Some prefer the alternative, some wish to stay. Yet for those who choose to embrace this change; those who go without fear. The land itself is magic and you will find your place there.
"Will I have friends this time? Will I get to go to school and grow up someday? Will I be like mother and father?"
Yes, for in this land there is peace. There is sanctity and safety. There you will find all that you have wished for.
"Will I get to see mother and father again?"
Perhaps, if the dream worlds intertwine. You may not appear as you are now, but if you see them, they will know. Their warmth, their love, that will guide you to them. However it does depend on whether or not they choose this world, there are some who do not.
"Do you think I'll forget them. I don't want to forget them..."
I am sorry, but memories too are a chain. If it binds you, you will have to stay and your pain will only grow. Fear not however, for this love will return to you when the dreams begin to meet.
"Okay, I think I'm ready to go now."
Of course my dear, you have been ready for a long time.
"Can I hug you goodbye?"
Of course you can and I will miss you too.
"Will you come and visit me some time?"
Yes, but only when your dream has ended. And when it has, we shall see each other again.
"Do you think I'll remember you?"
No, I'm afraid not my son. But no matter what, one truth shall remain and it is a simple one: for no matter how far apart we are. Remember, that I will always love you, my dear sweet child...
