To Save A Princess:

In most of the stories, whether old or new
It is usually the knight that saves the maiden
But reality is never as sweet as that
And often the truth gets slightly misshapen

But this is a story about the truth;
A tale of Pirates who aided the King
Though most would credit his honoured knights
We know they didn't do a thing...

Instead what happened is an epic story
For it began on a night when the moon was full
The Pirates slipped from their hallowed ship
Like wolves cloaked in wool

They hid amongst the jagged rocks
And called like birds to communicate
The soldiers thought they were hearing things
Until they began to hallunicate...

Visions of frightening ghosts and shades
Covered their eyes and sent them screaming
They clawed at their faces and toppled to the ground;
They woke the camp with their horrid keening

The ground was alive with running footsteps
Yet soldiers began to fall like snow
In panic their ears could not hear the sound
Of the rifle that laid them low...

As the princess shook inside her tent
An elf that blended with the night approached her
She cut the ropes and reassured her softly;
She told them who they were:

We're the Black Fedora Pirates lass
We're here ta set ya free
Now come along and stay quiet is all
I'll have ye out in three!

And so the princess then was wisked away
As the pirates vanished into the night
And all that was left to tell of their presence
was a flag that fluttered out of sight...

"And that ladies and gentlemen, is the first story of the Black Fedora Pirates."

Fave if you enjoyed it please ^^

Author's Comment:

Arrr maties,

Thought I'd try to do bardic tales on the Black Fedora Pirates this week, was hopin' to create a sense of mystique and desire for ye ta want ta get to know their crew. Tomorrow, perhaps they'll face harpies or steal a dragon's treasure, who knows. What I do know however, is that good fantasy, never dies and the best kind of fantasy is the one we've had all along. A world of elves, dragons, dwarves, gods, goddesses and where your only limitation is the strength of yer imagination.

This week, I will bring that all to life and I hope ye enjoy it all.

So the critique function won't let me post my review so here it is:

I truly enjoyed the style in which it was wrote, most people would shy away from a ballad, but I find it as a refreshing change.
I also found the use of visuals interesting, you told us exactly what we needed, and allowed for our imagination to do the rest.
Also, and I don't know if this was intentional or not, but even in this short work we were able to get a slight grasp of who these pirate are. Clearly they have some sense of honor if they're willing to rescue a princess for a kingdom, but I'd be interested in seeing more of them, to get to know them, on a different level, you know?
Like, why did they rescue the princess? Are they full-fledged pirates in the sense that they raid whomever they choose? Or are they more like privateers, where they only raid specific targets because they're in the employ of one nation or another?
Overall a very good beginning to an interesting story.
