She arrives on time each night,
With a flurry of quick footsteps,
Followed by a timid knock at my door.
The reply I give her is often curt,
'Enter,' I'll say
And she does.
I spend a moment taking stock of her appearance:
Noticing bare skin beneath a heavy brown coat.
A few droplets of sweat run down her neck,
And she swallows nervously as she awaits my instruction.
I approach her slowly;
Enjoying this moment where the distance closes.
My eyes take their time to pull her into focus,
And like a bolt of awareness she becomes vivid;
Her lips a sparkling red and utterly lush for a kiss...
Her eyes are doe-eyed and completely tame;
Her makeup is perfect, as I've always liked.
But I can tell, beneath that flawless surface,
That it was rushed under a dim streetlight.
At this point our lips are separated by a bare inch,
I like to leave this distance as I stare into her eyes.
I enjoy the way her breath quickens as I ask her the question,
The question that begins our night:
'Did your husband see you leave my dear?'

I sent my child out to school today
With cuts up the length of her arm
Knowing that the teachers will just say

I just hope today isn't the day
For physical education class
I’ll give her a note to be excused
But how long can these excuses last?

And bruises to her upper arms
That I was hoping would not show

Selling Death
He sold death...relatively cheaply. He sold death in many guises and pseudonyms, the favorites being Smith and Wesson. The names were the interesting part of the business, noticing how easily the customer would be deceived of the import of the object they were buying by its name. As if a Colt failed to foretell as much pain and death as an AK. He takes minor amusement from this small intricacy of human understanding, as they come calling for a “mighty” UZI and scoff at the “pathetic” Glock when either and both spell the destruction of a life, the most reprehensible and powerful sin.

Eat up all your food, even the vegetables.
Do you know how many kids who would die for your plate?
Do not even think you are leaving the table.
At this rate, you can forget about going out with your mates.
But mamma even if I ate all my dinner they will still be starving.
Eating all this food would not change that.
If they were here right now, I would have no problem with halving.
At least then it would feel like I gave back.
Son, you do not understand me.
Do you know how lucky you are to live the life you lead?
To be able to refuse food so candidly.
When these are things that kids in Africa desperately need.

Since my last semi-dark, semi-erotic piece received some pleasant comments. I decided to do another one. This one is a little more overt, but of course I kept to my rule of never actually putting anything mature in the content.
