There are those who stare into the water's edge.

Gleaming eyes fixed upon their reflections.

I am beautiful! they say to themselves,

And all of you must accept that as true!

To say otherwise would be a social suicide.

Their friends will defend them to the bitterest end.

In a circle of illusions cast by the group,

You are forced to accept this person as 'pretty'.

Sorry...

To me you are not beautiful, you are simply lazy.

You have done nothing for yourself,

And now you wish me to accept you?

Sorry...

But I must tell you the truth.

And though that truth may wound you,

I believe it is for the best:

Because girl, dayum! You just look so bad that my eyes are cryin' YOU a river.

Author's Comment:

Alright so,

My friend comes up to me and he's all like: "Look at this photograph, every time I see it makes me laugh. My eyes get so red and what the hell (Chen) is on your head?"

(Yes I just quoted nickelback .3.)

Anyway my friend was showing me some old photos and then we started talking about the old days and I recalled a party where I met someone who could only be described as a catastrophe.

She bought the most fashionable clothes, great make up, good style, but holy tamoli - she - she was - actually I don't think there is a polite way to describe it in the English language.

In any case, I knew this girl basically did nothing for herself. She was the type to just stuff herself and would only sleep and chat on Facebook during her free time (maybe some farmville, whatever was popular back then).

Anyhow, she was basically the token plus girl in the 'cool girls/mean girls' group and that meant her personality was basically as terrible as the rest of her.

Now when I was at this party, I was just looking for my pals who had invited me and then I spotted her standing with her group. I made sure not to make eye contract unlike a few unlucky individuals, because no matter how good the rest of the group is, that one was a landmine.

Trust me, you say anything other than 'oh my god, you look so great' and you will just get destroyed socially because the rest of the pack is going to set on you like a bunch of blood-thirsty hyenas and the rumours about you being anti-women and all that will spread to the four corners of the globe faster than any zombie apocalypse. Yes it was that bad!

So I literally spent the whole night evading any sort of conversation with said individuals and at one point they were looking for me. (Why? Friend of friend says, guess what he's a writer and they suddenly think that makes me cool instead of shit poor and homeless if not for my parents).

Anyway, point of this little story is this: I don't mind boosting someone's morale, I love doing it and I love making a person feel great about themselves, but if you're that token girl that is somehow being idolised because you're in the cool kids group and you expect me to do the same thing and lie to you. I am not going to do that. I will make polite conversation sure, but expecting praise and adoration; not going to happen.

Instead, I like people who are actually trying their best, those I will gladly talk to and boost their morale. If I know that person and they're shy at a party (hell I'm a shut-in myself anyway) I'll probably be the first one to talk to them.

TL;DR > If you are a perfectly able bodied individual who chooses to let themselves go to the dogs, don't expect to be addressed as anything other than that.

The strength of an idea is measured by it's ability to withstand scrutiny.

The reason why telling people they don't look healthy is a good idea is because that way they can be encouraged to fix that.

However, I don't blame these people because both the thesis and the anti-thesis have been throughly broken.

You see, the media always tells people to look a certain way because they want to make them feel horrible so they will buy things,
however those very same people try to defend themselves by saying that totally rejecting such issues works better. It does not.

As usual, things work best when you don't buy into the thyseize splitting by just staying in the middle.

Beauty is not required but a lack of it is not required either.

Brilliant, love it! Grrr I feel the same way towards a certain group of such girls, they really should be called "women" (being 30-40ish) but with the way they behave.. I don't know, girls it is. Love your style of writing! :)

Uhh I can't stand people who don't do any work for themselves, especially at school. Because I'm one of the smart kids, I've been cheated off of for years and people always ask me to give them my homework to copy and it makes me mad. I work my butt of and you people just want me to let you see my homework or w/e? Heck no! Do your own dang work. It really infuriates me how the lazy kids do get away with whatever they want, the moment I forget to do something I'm instantly in trouble. I know because I'm a good student, teachers expect more of me but it just makes me angry. Like, last year there was this kid in my art class who did nothing but watch videos and listen to music allllll year long. My teacher essentially just let him pass for doing no work. While I had to work my butt off for the Final and the other final projects.
Anyways I'll end my rant here

Great poem... but a disappointing ending.  It comes out of nowhere and takes away from the piece as a whole.

Also change the title.  I was expecting something from the television show of the same name.  A good way to tell if your title is "safe" to use is to google it.  If you get the result of a piece of media with the same name, then find a new title.

Haha I just enjoy a little humour in my works. If we're serious all the time, we'd all be crying.

As for the title, sorry but you can't really avoid having the same name as somethings some time. It's actually fine, it can bring in an audience that was expecting something different.

Besides almost everything is taken, so we're all recycling :3

I love the writing in your description. Reminds me of an M. shadows quote, "...at least a man can exercise if he gets too fat, but baby I got news for you, your face is stuck like that." Thanks for making me happy today.
