Asylum:
I scrape my hands upon the ground,
Staring at my cell.
I wonder why I'm trapped inside,
This vivid living hell.
I've heard the voices calling out,
Maybe they're in my head...
I wonder where my cell-mates are,
Maybe they are dead...
Time has no meaning in this place,
Nor does the word of day and night,
The food is simply human flesh,
It will give you quite a fright...
Upon a chair they strap me down,
They open my eyes and make me shiver,
They pull out a scalpel and many knives,
The sight alone, it makes me quiver.
They inject me with a strange chemical,
The world does fade to black.
I wake up in my cell again,
And hear the sound clink-clack!
Lo, they left the door unlocked,
Unhinged it's time for freedom.
Release me from this horrid prison,
It is a place devoid of reason!
Demons chase me in the halls,
A laughing chef with a chainsaw calls.
It splutters and thirsts for my blood of life,
But I'd rather die by the kitchen knife!
"I wonder if I ever said goodbye to my wife..."

Pretend
All of my life,
I've played pretend.
At five,
I was a princess.
At seven,
I was a cowgirl.
At ten,
I was a creature of myth.
Now at thirteen,
I pretend to be normal.
Fake a smile,
fake a laugh.
No one really cares,
So I pretend I don't hurt.
Pretend to be happy,
But I'm drowning.
Come with me,
We can play pretend together.

Hospital
"I hate hospitals."
"Why's that?"
"They're always trying to hide."
"What do you mean by 'hide'?"
"You smell that?"
"Yea. Smells clean."
"I hate that smell."
"Why?"
"It's too clean. It's like they're trying to hide the fact that people die here."
"Well that's morbid..."
"It's the truth."
"Would you rather it smell like germs and corpses?"
"No. But that's not the point."
"What is your point?"
"It's all just too... pleasant."
"Well yea. Hospitals are meant to help people. They're supposed to be pleasant."
"...You've never had a love one die, have you?"
"...No."
"No one should have to sit and watch the world spin on as if the pe

Open Heart Surgery
I've got ink throbbing through fissured veins,
poisoning every atom of my soul.
"Bite your tongue," they say.
How I'd love to chew the damn thing off
and suck down every filthy syllable
just like the rotten bone marrow it is.
They'd all watch as my body spontaneously combusts
and becomes nothing but convoluted karma.
And so I wrote,
"Dear poetry,
Teach me the ways of ripping out a human heart,
and stitching it onto ink-stained parchment."
The answer that came was rasped from a cauterized throat:
"Read your future in the collapsed palm of the stars;
find the abandoned pulse of your lionhearted muse;
steal their conformed scalpel and mak
